Zen Buddhist Meditation

Zen Meditation Group at USF in Spring 2020

In the Spring 2020 semester, we have two weekly meeting times, both on Wednesdays in the Arrupe Room.

Date & Time: Wednesdays (1/29-4/29, excluding 3/11), 12 noon – 1 pm, and 6:30-8:00 pm (3/18-4/29), 4:45 – 6:15 pm 1/29- 3/4)
Location: Arrupe Room, beneath the bell tower of St. Ignatius Church (650 Parker Ave, San Francisco, CA 94118, on USF campus: see below for details, including map)

For the 12 noon – 1 pm meditation, we will only practice Zazen in Arrupe Room. This session will be led by Gerard Kuperus.

For the 6:30 – 8:00 pm meditation, we will also practice Tai Chi, led by Geoff Ashton.

  • 6:30 – 7:15 pm: Tai Chi* (weather permitting, outside on the grass on the east side of St Ignatius Church, otherwise in Arrupe Room**)
  • 7:15 – 8:00 pm: Zazen Meditation (in Arrupe Room)

Notes:

* Feel free to join us for Tai Chi at any time between 6:30 and 7:15 pm. Tai Chi is a great way to prepare for seated Zazen meditation. However, please arrive by 7:15 pm, if you plan to join us for seated meditation, since late-comers will disturb those in meditation. We will close the doors at 7:15 pm. Meditation cushions and chairs are available.

** To enter the Arrupe Room (basement of Saint Ignatius Church, just beneath the bell tower at the northeast corner of the Church), please find the main entrance by way of a set of descending stairs at the northeast corner of the Church. On days when the weather permits, we will begin with Tai Chi outside on the grass. See the map for the locations.

These events are free and open to the public (no donations accepted). Please wear suitable clothing.
