The Speaking Center

The Speaking Center will start offering its services for the Fall of 2024 semester on Monday, September 2, and will continue its services, with both in-person and virtual availability for students.

The LWSC staff can be reached in person at Gleeson Library lower level, Room G03; via email at LWSC@usfca.edu; or via phone at (415) 422-6713. We also respond promptly to voicemails left on our main line at (415) 422-6713.

The Speaking Center is available to help students prepare for public speaking - including speeches, oral presentations, team presentations, and visual aid demonstrations.

Public Speaking Coaches can help you with a variety of aspects of public speaking, including:

  • effective oral communication skills
  • researching and writing speech content
  • achieving engaging delivery
  • developing well-organized, concise, and informative main points
  • using transitions and signposting
  • crafting introductions and conclusions
  • enhancing visual aids

Coaches are trained peer tutors who are skilled teachers and experienced public speakers.

Appointments are available during designated hours each semester.

Dr. Philip Choong is the Director of the USF Speaking Center and Professor in the Department of Rhetoric and Language. He can be contacted via email at pchoong@usfca.edu.
