CAPS, in collaboration with Human Resources' GoUSF and with Health Promotion Services, offers a free training called QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) Gatekeeper Certification.  According to the QPR website, the mission of QPR is "to save lives and reduce suicidal behaviors by providing innovative, practical, and proven suicide prevention training. We believe that quality education empowers all people, regardless of their background, to make a positive difference in the life of someone they know."

Participants in QPR trainings at USF have found it valuable in increasing their knowledge and skills around suicide prevention:

"This is important training that everyone should do."

"You'll learn a lot and get practice having difficult conversations. I think this training is a good reminder that suicide is real, and we need to remove the taboo."

"This has made a major impact on how I will operate in these types of situations moving forward."

"This training allowed me to become more comfortable with a subject, suicide, that isn't the easiest to talk about."

If you and/or members of your organization are interested in learning more about suicide prevention, QPR trainers are available to schedule a 1.5-hour QPR Gatekeeper Certification training session for you. The training includes a lecture and role-play breakout session with discussion.

Contact Stephanie McGrath, Psy.D., or call CAPS at 415.422.6352 during business hours to inquire about QPR training availability.
