The Learning Center
Our Mission and Vision
The mission of the Learning Center is to help students develop and enhance their academic skills and abilities by cultivating effective learning practices and building their leadership skills through high-impact leadership and engagement opportunities. We support investment in learning and studying and respect individual learning styles. We strive to foster an environment conducive to collaborative learning, where trained student leaders serve as role models. With the goal of creating lifelong learners, we strive to support students' endeavors toward self-confidence and higher academic achievement and performance.
The vision of The Learning Center is to empower students to achieve their academic and personal goals via opportunities for enhanced learning, interpersonal development, personal responsibility, and leadership. Our three core functions are: (1) to provide course-specific academic support, (2) to provide academic skills development initiatives, and (3) to provide high-impact leadership and engagement opportunities.
Peer Tutoring
The Learning Center offers personalized academic support tailored to specific course needs:
- One-on-one appointments and group tutoring sessions
- Support for numerous courses each semester
- Trained Peer Tutors, recommended by USF faculty members
SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION
The Learning Center offers additional academic support tailored to specific course needs:
- Weekly small-group study sessions, no appointment necessary
- Support for high-risk courses on campus (BIOL and NURS)
- Trained SI Leaders facilitate efficient methods of studying and foster collaboration between classmates
ACADEMIC SKILLS COACHING & WORKSHOPS
The Learning Center strives to enhance students' academic skills and abilities:
- One-on-one coaching appointments
- Workshops by request
- Variety of discussion topics
- Online resources available to all
