COVID-19 Resources

In these difficult times, students may experience increased basic needs challenges. While the Division of Student Life and the Office of the Dean of Students cannot provide long-term, permanent interventions, they do have a number of resources to assist students.

Food Challenges

The USF Food Pantry is not open during summer 2021 but plans to reopen in fall 2021. In addition, Student Life has compiled a list of community resources for free groceries or meals. This list also includes recipes for low-cost meals, since many will be preparing their own food with the groceries they receive from these resources.

Technology Challenges

Students who currently do not have  a computer or the financial means to purchase a laptop can apply to the Student Laptop Program. Students experiencing connectivity issues with their internet should follow these tips. If students still need assistance after trying these suggestions, they should contact the ITS help desk at itshelp@usfca.edu.

If a student has absolutely no access to WiFi or wired connection in their home, they should contact deanofstudents@usfca.edu. 

Housing Challenges

The Office of the Dean of Students has identified a number of resources that may be able to assist students with rent (see below). Students with housing concerns can also contact the Office of Off-Campus Living. 

Rental Assistance Agencies in San Francisco

Catholic Charities of San Francisco: 

  • Services provided: rental assistance for back rent, security deposits, information and referral to appropriate community agencies
  • Target population: individuals and families residing in San Francisco who are experiencing a temporary financial setback 
  • How to apply: intake coordinators can be reached at 415.972.1310 

Eviction Defense Collaborative (EDC):

  • Services provided: rental assistance for tenants residing in the City and County of San Francisco who have fallen behind in their rent due to a temporary financial setback
  • Target population: families, single adults, and youth ages 18 to 24 (must be a resident of San Francisco County)
  • How to apply: For those who have received an eviction notice, drop in at 1338 Mission Street, 4th Floor San Francisco (see web page for hours); others needing assistance, visit this web page for information about resources during the COVID-19 shelter in place directive

Q Foundation:

  • Services provided: security deposit and first month's rent grants and back rent assistance
  • Target population: adults 18 and older, members of the LGBTQ or HIV+ communities (must be a resident of San Francisco County)
  • How to apply: complete the online application
