Bloodborne Pathogens Program
Cal OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogens (Title 8, General Industry Safety Order 5193) requires that individuals at risk of exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens receive training regarding risk and proper procedure while handling hazardous substances.
The Bloodborne Pathogens Program (BBP) protects individuals from exposure to human blood, tissues, cell lines, and other potentially infectious materials (OPIM). Bloodborne pathogens are pathogenic micro-organisms that are present in human blood. Examples include hepatitis B (HBV), hepatitis (HCV), and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
All individuals with a reasonably anticipated exposure to Bloodborne pathogens or any OPIM is required to comply with the Bloodborne Pathogens Program. This training is required annually by CAL-OSHA.
