Preschools

General Resources

Saavy Source

Saavy Source is a nationwide site that offers listings and information on preschools as well as camps and other activities.

Children's Council of San Francisco

This organization provides childcare referrals and workshops to help parents navigate the process of finding care.  They have a comprehensive website with an online child care finder (which also pulls up preschools) and also provide information on afterschool programs and summer camps.

California Child Care Resource and Referral Network

For those of you seeking care outside of San Francisco county, this site can help you locate the childcare resource and referral agency for your county.

Nurturelist

Nurturelist is a free website that lists daycares and preschools.  You can search by proximity to a particular address and other criteria.  You can also create an account and save notes about various options.  The site owner is supposedly not maintaining the site anymore, but it has some great listings!

Winnie

This newly launched site lists daycares and preschools in San Francisco as well as some information on parks & playgrounds, activities for kids, and family restaurants.  Check out this informative Preschool 101 article / presentation with tips for a San Francisco search!

Preschools by the Bay - Irene Byrne, MA

This book written by the director of the Phoebe Hearst Preschool gives tips for navigating the preschool search process in San Francisco & Marin counties and also contains listings for a number of schools in those counties.

Preschool Preview Night by Parents Place

Every year in the Fall, Parents Place hosts a preschool preview night fair in the Golden Gate Park Hall of Flowers.  This page explains a little bit about the event and also gives some general tips for starting your preschool search.  Look online for the upcoming Fall date as it gets closer to August / September!

How to Choose the Best Preschool for Your Child - Jenifer Wana

I really found this book helpful as I was going through the preschool search.  She walks through how to get organized, various factors to consider as you consider various programs, and how to manage the process to give your child the best chance of being admitted.  She didn't write the book specifically for the Bay Area, but I recommend it as a valuable resource to check out!
