Black History Month 2026

Black History Month is an annual tradition that honors the life, challenges, aspirations, innovations, sacrifices, and enduring legacies of Black/African Americans and the wider African Diaspora. Its roots trace back to 1926, when historian Carter G. Woodson, through the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH), created Negro History Week to challenge the widespread omission of Black achievement from schools, scholarship, and public memory. In 2026, as we mark the centennial of that first observance, Black History Month invites our community to celebrate Black Voices across generations while recommitting to the ongoing work of Joy, Legacy and Liberation.

Check out all that USF has to offer with a month - long list of programs, events and exhibits to commemorate such a celebration!
