A career counselor will help you determine whether one or more of these assessment instruments is right for you. An interpretation appointment with a career-counselor is required in order to obtain the results of the iStartStrong or MBTI. SkillScan and Values Inventory must be completed during an appointment with a counselor. If you are interested in any of the assessment services listed below, please call the Career Services Center at 415-422-6216, or come to the 5th floor of the UC.
The iStartStrong, available on-line, can help you make career decisions and measures your interests in a broad range of occupations, occupational and leisure activities, hobbies, school subjects and types of people. This report puts self-discovery into the hands of anyone seeking career direction and paints a clear picture of how one’s interests and themes link to various jobs, work settings, and career fields. It presents results using engaging four-color graphics and provides hyperlinks to related Occupational Network (O*Net) occupations.
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)
The MBTI, available on-line, is the most widely used personality inventory in history. It describes 16 personality types, each with its own way of looking at the world, each with its own strengths and personal challenges. The MBTI helps you choose potentially satisfying occupations and work environments. The report includes a multi-page graph of your MBTI results and a booklet which describes how the MBTI can be used in career planning, as well as in other areas of one’s life.
The SkillScan assessment is a card sort activity that helps summarize Moderate and High Proficiency skills to provide a comprehensive picture of talents and abilities. This assessment is not available online, but can be done during a 1 hour career counseling appointment.
Values Driven Work Inventory
The Values Driven Work Inventory is a card sort activity that helps summarize the values that are most important for the individual to have in his/her work. This assessment is not available online, but can be done during a 1 hour career counseling appointment.
