Sublet Law and Legal Definition
A subtenant is someone who has the right to use and occupy rental property leased by a tenant from a landlord. A subtenant has responsibilities to both the landlord and the tenant. A tenant must often get the consent of the landlord before subletting rental property to a subtenant.

Subletting can be a great option for students to make the most out of their 12 month lease. If students plan on going home for the summer and leaving their apartment in the city, it can be very convenient to let someone sublet, so they don't have to pay for the summer months they won't be occupying the space.
