Example Event Layouts

Here you'll find some real world examples of different kinds of event pages. We've provided some comments on what is working well and ideas for further enhancements. Apply these ideas to your next event to make it as usable and effective as possible.

Celebration Event

  • Clear, straightforward title
  • Register Now is formatted clearly and attractively using the style menu's "Diamond Link"
  • Excellent photo
  • Clear explanation of reason for the event and what will occur
  • Speakers introduced
  • Noted that it is open to the public

Ideas to make it even better:

  • Information paragraph could have used the "text intro" style to make it stand out from supporting copy
  • Speaker names could link to bio information
  • Open to the public could be italic to make it stand apart from copy
  • Link to INSJ could have used the "Diamond Link" style

Admission Open House

  • Clear, straightforward title
  • Register Today is formatted clearly and attractively using the style menu's "Diamond Link"
  • Photo is good and likely ties into other advertising for the event
  • Inviting and enthusiastic copy
  • Link in copy to explore more about programs
  • Clear contact information for followup

Ideas to make it even better:

  • First paragraph could have used the "text intro" style to make it stand out
  • Link to programs could have been applied to more of the text (ie: "doctoral, master's, and credential programs")
  • Even better if link to programs was on its line with "diamond link" style for maximum impact
  • Copy could be accented with variety by larger intro text and use of italic for contact info

School of Education Open House event page

Conversation Panel

  • Interesting photo with caption explaining it
  • Co-presenters identified
  • Straightforward description
  • Robust bios of participants, with links to further info
  • Substantial copy makes event feel more substantial

Ideas to make it even better:

  • Title is long and unwieldy
  • "Online-Online" for location does not indicate how it will happen (Zoom? YouTube? Facebook Live?)
  • Register Here: a single word link is always difficult user experience and not recommended for accessibility
  • Copy could use more variety in sizing and format so each part stands out from the others
