Technology Expo
The Tech Fair Expo ended with a blast with over 200 attendees. The day started with a warm welcome from Shirley McGuire, our Senior Vide Provost of Academic Affairs, and Jared Stein, keynote speaker on hybrid course design. We had three panel presentations headed by both faculty and students; sixteen vendors booths and four vendors' presentations; and nine USF booths. Great raffle prizes and give-aways, good food and conversations added much fun to the learning day. Our thank you goes to everybody who had made this event possible. Keynote Title: Blended On Purpose Presenter: Jared Stein, Instructure Canvas As VP of Higher Education Strategy for Instructure, Jared and team look at the problems that teaching and learning faces in order to identify ways that technology can have a positive impact. This work is often done in collaboration with colleges and universities, or as part of the Canvas Community. Panel Presentation on Hybrid Instruction Join a panel of faculty from the School of Nursing and Health Professions and learn about how they are using the hybrid course delivery model to innovate their teaching at USF. What is a hybrid course? A hybrid course is a type of course delivery model where the instructor conducts part of their course in the classroom and part of it online, creating more flexibility for students and faculty, among other benefits. |

Student Panel led by Jonathan Hunt, Co-Director of the Tracy Seeley Center for Teaching Excellence. Faculty learn about new teaching technologies from colleagues, developers, teaching centers, and instructional technologists—but what do students have to say about teaching with technology? |

Panel Presentation on Active Learning Join this session on active learning to hear about three different approaches to using technology to engage students both online and in the classroom. Panelists will include: Laureen Turner, School of Nursing and Health Professions - Laureen will share her use of Poll Everywhere to stimulate classroom discussion and assessment of learning. Kyoko Suda, Modern and Classical Languages - Kyoko will present her research on implementing a flipped model of instruction that allows students to interact with learning material online so that in-class time can be used to practice Japanese. Ed Munnich, Psychology - Ed will share his use of iClicker to engage students in the review of course concepts and evidence from cognitive science. |
