Gender Non-Conforming Student Resources

Below is a listing of some key resources, with links to their efforts to support LGBTQ+ students.

This list is not exhaustive, and we encourage you to check with D. Perez-Sornia (djperezsornia@usfca.edu), lead for the Gender & Sexuality Center and related campus gender and sexuality resources and support.

Gender and Sexuality Center

The Gender & Sexuality Center is both a physical lounge space for students, and a center for student-led events and support. We can be found on the 4th floor of the University Center in room 413. Our events explore gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexuality, healthy relationships, and queer joy. We employ three student interns who curate events for students in three focus areas including Trans & Non-Binary+ Community BuildingQueer Love and Life, and Queer & Trans People of Color (QT-POC).

Come by when we're open or check out our events calendar for upcoming events and initiatives.

Housing

The Gender Inclusive housing option is intended to provide a safe, affirming, and inclusive community living option for students who identify as transgender, non-binary, gender non-conforming, genderqueer, or gender-expansive.

You can apply for Gender Inclusive Housing within the housing application and be entered into a lottery for a room in the gender-inclusive community.

Koret Health and Recreation Center

Koret has added a gender-inclusive locker room, which features a toilet, shower and changing room. The room is single-use and remains unlocked unless it is occupied. An occupied sign turns on when someone is in the room and locks the door, like many bathroom stalls. The shower, toilet, changing area and sink are all ADA accessible. Day-use lockers are available just outside the room so that users can secure their belongings during their workout.

Preferred First Name Options

Recognizing that many students use preferred first names other than their legal ones to identify themselves, the University of San Francisco offers the option of the use of a preferred first name. The University extends this accommodation in order to help foster a more welcoming, supportive, and respectful campus climate for all of its students.

Note: The preferred first name is not a legal name change. Students who are legally changing their name should follow the instructions listed here: SSN and Name Changes.
