AB 524 Compliance Requirements

Requirements for the 2024-25 academic year for all campus-recognized social sororities and fraternities are as follows: 

  • Annual renewal and recognition requirements through Student Leadership and Engagement (SLE) are met. Find more details on these requirements.
  • All events/activities (i.e., events, meetings, gatherings, socials, etc.) must be registered and approved by SLE prior to the event being held. Event information must be submitted for SLE review at least two weeks prior to the date of the event. Submission of events can be done via the Greek Event Notification Form.
  • All selective membership processes are registered and approved by SLE prior to any recruitment and new member education events being held. The current requirements as outlined in the Student Handbook (Fogcutter) include: 
    • Providing information on all recruitment and member education activities
    • Anti-hazing agreement forms
    • Up to date membership rosters
    • A process that aligns with the process outlined by the affiliated national organization (if any)
    • Not last longer than eight weeks in duration
    • Conclude at least seven academic days prior to Study Day
    • Conduct all meetings and events on campus, unless explicit approval to host an off-campus activity is granted by SLE
  • Proof of year round insurance that meets USF criteria submitted which currently includes as outlined in the Student Handbook (Fogcutter):
    • General Liability (GL) with a minimum of $1 million per occurrence with a $2 million aggregate ($1M/$2M). Additionally, please ensure that the following coverages are included within the General Liability policy:
    • Liquor Liability with a minimum of $1 million ($1M) per occurrence
    • Sexual Assault with a minimum of $1 million ($1M) per occurrence
    • Property Damage with a minimum of $1 million ($1M) per occurrence
    • Hazing with a minimum of $1 million ($1M) per occurrence
    • Please ensure that the Additional Insured language names “The University of San Francisco, its trustees, officers, employees, faculty, and agents, and other related entities as additional insureds as their interests may appear with regard to the activity and/or operations under the subject Contract or Agreement.”
    • Proof of insurance must be submitted via email to Jessica Alva, SLE Associate Director and Greek Life Advisor.
  • Regularly scheduled meetings between the chapter president and the Associate Director of SLE which is currently set for once a month during the academic year.
  • Required to submit annual AB 524 metrics which include:
    • (i) The number of active members in the campus-recognized sorority or fraternity.
    • (ii) The number of new members added to the campus-recognized sorority or fraternity.
    • (iii) The average grade point average of the membership of the campus-recognized sorority or fraternity.
    • (iv) The average grade point average of new members of the campus-recognized sorority or fraternity.
    • (v) The number of community service hours the campus-recognized sorority or fraternity completed as an organization.
    • (vi) The total amount of money fundraised by the campus-recognized sorority or fraternity.
    • (vii) The current recognition status of the campus-recognized sorority or fraternity, as determined by the institution.
    • (viii) The current conduct status of the campus-recognized sorority or fraternity, as determined by the institution.
    • (ix) The addresses of all chapter houses affiliated with the campus-recognized sorority or fraternity.
    • (x) The location, date, and time of any sanctioned event.
    • (xi) A contact list for all chapter advisors as well as regional and/or national office liaisons
    • (xii) Any awards received/won by the chapter.

Any campus-recognized social sorority or fraternity that does not comply with the above requirements will be suspended from campus.
