Transfer Course Substitution

Procedure to Receive Credit for Transfer Courses

To determine whether a psychology course you took elsewhere will substitute for a USF psychology course, you must submit a Substitution Request form. A faculty reviewer will evaluate the syllabus for equivalency and may contact you if more information is needed. A decision will be made usually within 1-2 weeks.

Steps:

  1. Fill out the Substitution Request form*
  2. Attach the course syllabus. Course descriptions will not be reviewed. If you do not have the syllabus, contact the psychology department from your previous institution.

*Special notes:

  • ARM/ART courses (PSYC 387 and PSYC 388) cannot be substituted.
  • A minimum of 16 units of upper division courses within the psychology major must be taken at USF (12 units minimum for psychology minors).
  • If you took a Rhetoric and Composition course at a previous institution, you must still complete a Rhetoric and Composition (Core A2) course at USF. Psychology majors are required to take RHET 203 Writing in Psychology as part of their foundation requirements.

Transfer students that have writing course credits can go directly to RHET 203. Otherwise, take the directed self-placement test for your course order.
