The Office of Assessment and Accreditation Support manages institutional surveys conducted at the University of San Francisco. If you are planning to conduct a survey of any member of the USF community, including prospective, current, or former students; or any current university employee, please refer to the Institutional Survey Policy. Once you review the policy, please contact usfsurveys@usfca.edu to get your institutional survey started.

The COVID-19 experience surveys were designed to gather feedback from various USF community members during the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of the Faculty Experience Survey was to learn how faculty were doing during the transition to remote learning caused by COVID-19 and to gather faculty input about fall 2020 instructional options. The purpose of the Staff Experience Survey was to learn about the staff experience during the disruption caused by COVID-19 in order to help USF better support employees in the future, and the purpose of the Student Experience Survey was to gauge the student experience during the shelter-in-place directive and the shift to remote learning, to gather information to make changes (if necessary), and to assist in planning for future crises.

The Undergraduate Core Curriculum Redesign surveys were designed to gather feedback from various USF community members. The student survey aimed to gather information from students about their educational goals, the current core curriculum learning outcomes, key experiences they believe all USF students should have, and skills and competencies they believe are essential for USF graduates. The faculty/staff survey aimed to gather information from faculty, librarians, and staff about the current core curriculum learning outcomes, explore skill development for undergraduate students, and allow faculty and staff the opportunity to evaluate the importance of high impact learning experiences. Both surveys were also designed to measure levels of classroom engagement following the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Graduating Student Survey is the University of San Francisco's exit survey taken by students before they graduate. The objective of the Graduating Student Survey is to capture graduating students’ perception of their student experience. The survey asks students about their educational and co-curricular experiences, their values, ideals, and perspectives relative to people who are different from themselves, their religious identity, their work experiences, and their post-graduation plans. The Graduating Student Survey integrates the perspective of both undergraduate and graduate students. This survey replaces both the Undergraduate Graduating Student Survey and the Graduate Student Graduating Student Survey.

The Undergraduate Faculty Advising Survey was created as a means to gain an understanding of the undergraduate experience with faculty advising.

In order to create a better summer experience for USF students, undergraduate students who took summer session courses in summer 2022 were asked to complete a short 6-7 question survey. The survey asked questions regarding reasons for taking summer session courses, course format preferences, preference for length of summer session courses, other experiences of interest, and motivations for taking summer elective courses.

The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) is a survey of first year and senior students about the characteristics and quality of their undergraduate education. While NSSE does not directly assess student learning, the survey does reflect self-reported behaviors associated with desired outcomes of an undergraduate education. USF did not participate in NSSE in 2019.

All reports prepared by NSSE, unless otherwise noted.
