Men's Water Polo Club

🥇2025 University of San Francisco Club Sport of Year 🥇

USF Men’s Water Polo is a one-of-a-kind college water polo team that combines the best parts of:
a) elite college water polo
b) a student-run college club

We’re able to give players of all experience levels a positive, player-first team environment to become their best–and prove it against other top college water polo teams. You’ll find your best college sports experience here.

Competition
In the Fall Semester, USF competes in the Sierra Pacific division of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA), one of the most competitive divisions. In the Spring, we play in the independent men's club league that we organize. We also host and travel to tournaments, and set up non-league scrimmages throughout the academic year. Expect to play 25 games -- similar to an NCAA program -- spread out over two semesters.

‘24-’25 Competitive Record: 20-3-2 (.840)
CWPA: 5-2-1 (4th)
‘25 UCSC Tourney: 2-0-1 (1st)
‘25 Stanford Tourney 4-0 (1st)
‘25 UCD Tourney 2-1 (2nd)
‘24-’25 scrimmages: 7-0

Player Development
We are all about positivity and meeting players where they are at. We learn by scrimmaging, hands-on coaching and "lab time" where our team experiments and iterates. Beginners quickly develop into competitors, and experienced players are challenged to push their skills to the highest level.

Unmatched Hands-on Coaching at the College Club Level
Our program has one of the most comprehensive coaching staff in college water polo. Between our 8 coaches we have 4 NCAA National Championships, two D1 team captains, a D1 All-American, a Nationals Open Finalist, and a CWPA Men’s Club National Championship. Head Coach Erik Koland -- ‘22 & ‘25 Coach of the Year -- runs practice from the pool deck, with our assistant coaches in the water, helping our student athletes hands-on. We have elite position and skill-specific coaches: 2M, 2MD, driving, shooting, and goalie.

Coaching outside the pool
Our coaches are early and mid-career professionals in tech, finance & law, who help club members grow their professional networks and land great jobs in SF. For those seeking a job after graduation, our club has a 100% employment rate for graduating team members.

Facility
USF Koret Center Pool is the only 50M pool in San Francisco (and quite possibly the only indoor 50M in California). Rain, shine or fog, you'll be playing polo in ideal conditions.
